The name carries its own history of reinvention. The side started out in Mubarek, a town in the Kashkadaryo region, as Avtomobilist, became Fakel in 1984, and settled on Mash'al in 1992 — a word that means "torch," echoing the name it replaced rather than discarding it.
The one stretch when Mash'al stood apart from that up-and-down script came in the mid-2000s. Zafar Xolmuradov, another forward who ranks among the country's most prolific, wore the shirt in 2006 and again in 2011-12. Beyond the league table, the one trophy in the cabinet is the PFL Cup, won in 2014.
