Metropolitano

Rafael Costa scored 37 goals for Metropolitano, more than anyone else who has worn the green and white, and shared the top-scorer mark in the 2012 Campeonato Catarinense — a rare individual honour for a club that has spent most of its history moving between divisions rather than settling into one. Blumenau's Germanic brewing tradition gave the fixture against Blumenau Esporte Clube its name, the Clássico do Chope, and it survives as the city's football memory even though neither side has stayed put in the same division for long.

Metropolitano was formed in January 2002 to give Blumenau a professional club again, after Blumenau Esporte Clube and Grêmio Olímpico had faded. Within five years it had already gone looking for matches abroad: in 2007 it beat Switzerland's FC St. Gallen 4–2 in the final of the Torneio Centenário Internacional in Austria, a result that still stands out on a record otherwise built at state level. Runner-up finishes in the Copa Santa Catarina followed in 2009 and 2013, and the club spent stretches of the following decade in the Campeonato Brasileiro's Série C and Série D without pushing further up the national pyramid.

State football has been less settled. Relegation from the Campeonato Catarinense's top flight in 2017 was answered by the Série B title in 2018, which sent Verdão straight back up — only for another relegation in 2019 to put them back where they had started. Home games are played in front of just over 3,600 people at the Estádio Monumental do Sesi, though the club has borrowed the larger Estádio Hermann Aichinger in nearby Ibirama when a fixture outgrew its own ground. This year brought another final without the title: runners-up in the 2026 Série B, beaten by Hercílio Luz, leaving promotion back to the Catarinense top division as the job still to finish.
