About

The Copa Santa Catarina operates as a secondary state-level cup competition within the Brazilian football structure, governed by the Federação Catarinense de Futebol (FCF). Established in 1990, it provides a distinct pathway for clubs to access national tournaments, specifically the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D. While the primary state league, the Campeonato Catarinense, dominates the early part of the calendar, this cup is typically contested in the second half of the year, usually between September and November.

The tournament format has evolved over time. In the 2025 edition, sixteen teams were divided into four groups for a double round-robin group stage, leading to two-legged knockout rounds comprising quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final. The tournament winner gains the right to select their entry into either the following year's Copa do Brasil or Série D, while the runner-up secures the remaining slot. Should the top two finishers already have qualified through state league performance, the vacant places are reallocated to the next best-performing eligible sides.

Historical records show the competition has faced several interruptions. It was not held in 1994, 1997, and for an extended period from 1999 to 2005, with another hiatus occurring between 2014 and 2016 before returning in 2017. Joinville and Brusque stand out as the most successful clubs, each securing five titles. Joinville claimed victories in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2020, whereas Brusque won in 1992, 2008, 2010, 2018, and 2019. Figueirense follows with four titles, including the 2025 edition where they defeated Joinville in the final. Recent editions have carried sponsorship names such as "Copa SC GaleraBet" and "Taça Maury Werner."
