Barra's players had never lifted a national trophy before they beat Santa Cruz 2-1 on aggregate in the 2025 final of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D — a result that made the club the second-youngest champion in the competition's history. The side had been playing organised football for barely a dozen years by then.

Barra Futebol Clube was founded on 18 January 2013 in Balneário Camboriú, a coastal city in Santa Catarina whose fishing trade gave the club its nickname, Fisherman. It climbed the state pyramid in stages: the Série C title in 2015 opened the door to the second division, and the 2021 Série B campaign, completed without a single defeat, sent Barra back into Santa Catarina's top flight.

The bigger jolt came in 2026, when Barra won the Campeonato Catarinense itself, beating Chapecoense in the final. It became only the 24th club to claim that title, and the first outside the state's usual circle of winners since Brusque broke through in 1992 — a run of 34 years that had produced no new name on the trophy. The same season, Barra's under-17 side beat Chapecoense's junior team to retain the state youth title it had first won in 2022.

Home matches are played at Arena Barra FC in nearby Itajaí, on Rua Angelo Cavalieri in the Canhanduba de Dentro district — a ground built for 5,500.
