The club settled at the Estádio Orlando Scarpelli, known locally as Scarpelão, on the strait separating the island from the mainland, which gave rise to the other tag some still use: Gigante do Estreito. Capacity there runs to 19,584, but enough to make the ground one of the fixed points of the city.
Domestically, Figueirense's identity was built almost entirely on the Campeonato Catarinense, the Santa Catarina state championship, which it won 18 times between 1932 and 2018. The 2015 title came only after the state federation ruled on the matter following legal disputes, a reminder that not every one of those championships was settled purely on the pitch. The club never turned that regional weight into a national one: the closest it came was a runner-up finish in the 2007 Copa do Brasil, and two second-place finishes in Série B, in 2001 and 2010.
Figueirense now plays in Série C, alongside the Copa do Brasil and the Recopa Catarinense when it qualifies.
