Netherlands Women

In Rio de Janeiro in 2016, the Netherlands walked off the court with fourth place at the Olympics, the best finish the team has ever managed at a Games — no medal, but a marker of how far the team had come.

That side plays under the name Oranje Dames, run by the Nederlandse Volleybalbond out of Utrecht, and it took until 1995 for the wait for a first major title to end, when the European Championship came to the Netherlands and the hosts won it.

Ingrid Visser sits above everyone else who has worn the shirt, with 514 caps. Lonneke Slöetjes carries a different distinction: a 2020 poll named her the best Dutch volleyball player of all time.

The team has no fixed home; matches move between halls such as Ahoy Rotterdam, the Dynamo Dome in Almere and the Topsporthal in Venlo, a rotation that spreads Nations League and qualifying fixtures around the country rather than fixing them in one city. Felix Koslowski has coached the side since January 2023.
