Turkey Women

Turkish women's volleyball had no national side to speak of until organisers put one together for the International Istanbul Tournament of 1957, where the squad met Romania in its first fixture. A federation followed a year later, and by 1963 Turkey was standing in a major championship for the first time, at the European Championship, finishing tenth.

Players know the team as Filenin Sultanları , the Sultans of the Net, and the European League was won five times between 2009 and 2015. What came after that was heavier silverware: a Nations League title and a World Cup in the same year, 2023, then the European Championship itself, taken for the first time that same season. Serbia stood across the net for that final and won it 3-2.

Italy has been the other constant obstacle, met most recently at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and a World Championship silver followed in 2025. There is no single hall the team calls its own; matches move between cities.

Daniele Santarelli has coached the side since 2023.
