Nigeria qualified for the first Under-20 Women's World Cup in 2002 by winning the African U-19 Women's Championship that year, and the team has carried the name of the senior Super Falcons ever since, playing its home fixtures out of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, which holds 60,491.

In 2019 they added a Gold Medal at the African Games, beating Cameroon on penalties after the game had finished goalless.

The World Cup itself has been a harder stage. Asisat Oshoala was the individual story of that second run, finishing as top scorer and best player of the tournament.
