Nova Cidade

It won the Liga Nilopolitana de Desportos in 1949 and the Torneio Início da Baixada Fluminense in 1956. The breakthrough came in 1988, when the club won the Campeonato Carioca Série A2 and earned promotion to Rio de Janeiro's top flight for the first time. Nova Cidade played the 1989 and 1990 seasons among the state's elite before dropping back down. In 2018 it won the Campeonato Carioca Série B1, the state's third tier.

Its ground, the Estádio Joaquim de Almeida Flores, known locally as Joaquinzão, holds 5,000.

The name attached most often to Nova Cidade belongs to Serginho, who played for the club in 1988 at seventeen before moving on to Flamengo, São Paulo and Milan, and into the Brazil national team.
