Otp Banka Branik Women

Volleyball reached Maribor in 1924, and by 1946 that activity had a club of its own, founded that year under the name Polet. It became Branik in 1950, giving the team its nickname, Bankirke.

The record built up in stages that match the country it played in. Under Yugoslavia, the club took the national title four times, the last in 1985-86, before the league it played in changed shape entirely. Slovenian independence opened a domestic competition Branik has dominated rather than merely joined: eighteen championships since 1991-92, most recently in 2025-26, and twenty-one cups, a haul that includes a run of four straight from 1999 to 2003. Regionally, four MEVZA League titles between 2010 and 2015 gave the club a level above the domestic game to measure itself against.

For nearly two decades the team's daily home was Lukna Sports Hall, a venue holding 2,100 that saw most of those Slovenian titles won. Branik left it in 2025 for Tabor Hall, an arena in Maribor with room for 3,261, where a squad that has rarely finished a season empty-handed now plays in front of a crowd it has outgrown its previous ground to fit.
