Pinzgau Saalfelden

Two clubs from the same small town under the Steinernes Meer decided the town didn't need two of them. 1. Saalfeldner SK, dating back to 1947, and ESV Saalfelden, three years its junior, had already been fielding a joint side under the name SG Saalfelden since 2004 before the merger became official on 23 May 2007, when FC Pinzgau Saalfelden took shape as a single legal entity.

The blue on the shirt traces to Saalfeldner SK, the white to ESV Saalfelden — a shirt that still carries both halves of the old rivalry stitched into one badge.

Between 2019 and 2022 the club took a different route to survival than most sides its size, opening ownership to fans under a scheme built around developing young players bound for MLS, a project that briefly put a third-tier Austrian club on the radar of American soccer writers. On the pitch, Pinzgau's peak came twice as champions of the Salzburger Liga, in 2010/11 and again in 2013/14, and more recently as winners of the SFV-Stiegl-Landescup in back-to-back seasons, 2023/24 and 2024/25.

Matches are played at the 1508 SaalfeldenArena, formerly known as Sportplatz Bürgerau, which holds 2,000. The club now sits in the Regionalliga West, Austria's third tier, where a 10th-place finish out of 16 last season left it well short of the promotion places its Landescup form suggested it might chase.
