Two fixtures split the football calendar in Dublin differently. Bohemians carry the older grudge, the one that pits the two most decorated clubs in the city against each other regardless of form or table position. Shelbourne bring the tighter, more local argument, the Ringsend derby, fought over a stretch of the city both sides claim as home ground in spirit if not in fact.

Shamrock Rovers trace themselves to 1899, though the paperwork with the Leinster Football Association did not follow until 1901 — the gap between a club existing and a club being recognised is its own small piece of history. What has not needed registering since is the shirt: green and white hoops, the reason nobody in Ireland calls them anything but The Hoops.

The honours list is long enough that any single year risks getting lost in it, except the most recent one did not. Rovers closed out 2025 with both the league and the FAI Cup, taking their tally to 22 championships and 26 cups. Between those two figures sits the club's actual character: a side that has spent long stretches of its history not just competing for the domestic double but landing it, decade after decade, since the 1920s.

Home is Tallaght Stadium now, a ground built for a club that had spent years without a fixed one of its own, holding 10,547 inside a bowl that fills for the derbies more than it does for most midweek fixtures. It is a modest number next to the trophy count, but it is the one that decides how the ground sounds when Bohemians or Shelbourne are the visitors.
