Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex
Cairo, Egypt
The complex sits in Nasr City , but the main hall is what draws the crowd. The court is marked for handball, with the goal nets visible at either end and the referee’s chairs angled toward the centre.
The arena opened in September 1991, built by the Arab Contractors for the All-Africa Games. It has never been a single-purpose ground. The main hall holds 16,900 people for basketball and handball, though the head count shifts depending on the sport. Hall 2 is home to the basketball team of Gezira Sporting Club , while the other two rooms host badminton and fencing. The surface does not change; it is the games that do.
The building does not have one owner. The General Authority of Cairo Stadium manages the site, which sits inside the Cairo International Stadium complex. The national basketball and handball teams use the main hall when they play international tournaments, but the schedule is never fixed. Concerts take place there as well, though the seating is rearranged for those events. The venue does not keep an attendance record for a single match, as recent tournaments were held without spectators.
