Hala TJ Sokol Šlapanice
Šlapanice, Czechia
Formerly: Sokolovna, Hala Smetanova, Sportovní hala Sokola Šlapanice
Hala TJ Sokol Šlapanice stands on Smetanova 1662 in a town nine kilometres from Brno. Built between 1920 and 1921, it opened on 14 August 1921, decades after the local Sokol society established itself in 1892. The building was reconstructed in 2019 and 2020.
The hall seats 60 spectators for volleyball, a figure recorded when TJ Sokol Šlapanice played Black Volley Beskydy in the Czech Cup on 12 October 2022. That attendance stands as the known limit for sporting events. The 15 by 30 metre main floor accommodates men’s and women’s volleyball, basketball, and gymnastics. A smaller 45 square metre room features a shock-absorbing surface for fitness classes.
It is not a cathedral of sport. Yet the ground has hosted concerts as well as matches, including a performance by Barocco sempre giovane on 28 September 2009.
Its population sits around 7,900.
It is simply a place where people gather to watch games or attend events.
The capacity of 60 is not an obstacle but a definition. It means the audience sits close to the action.
