«Sokol Slapanice»
A hundred spectators is all the Sportovní hala Sokola Šlapanice on Smetanova can hold.
Volleyball came to Sokol Šlapanice decades after the parent gymnastics unit itself, with a first attempt in 1926 giving way to organised play from 1928 under Dr. J. Vašíček and F. Fišer; a women's section followed in 1930. The men only reached the sport's top level after the war, promoted to the Regional League in 1948, the same period in which political patronage briefly renamed the club Sokol Dechtochema and then Tatran Šlapanice, under which banner the men's team finished fourth nationally in the DSO Tatran championship of 1954. Among those who wore the shirt in the 1940s was Karel Láznička, who would go on to make his name across several sports.
The junior section has kept the club's name current more recently, taking the Přebor ČOS Junior Cup in 2020. Green and white remain the colours, carried over from the wider Sokol movement the club has belonged to since a founding meeting at the Šlapanice town inn in 1892, when 59 members signed up before the sport of volleyball had even entered the picture. What has stayed constant is the setting: a small hall in a small town outside Brno, still hosting Sokol Šlapanice's teams.
