Fenerbahçe dismantle Eyüpspor in eight-goal rout
Fenerbahçe saw off Eyüpspor 8-0 at the Çobani Stadyumu FB Şükrü Saracoğlu Spor Kompleksi in the Super Lig's sixth round. The hosts moved into ten places with five games, two wins, one draw, two losses and seven points. Eyüpspor sit seventeenth, one victory, no draws, four defeats and three points. We had backed the home side to win at 55 per cent confidence, and the scoreline confirmed that call.
Mason Greenwood opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the fourth minute. Vedat Muriqi doubled the lead seven minutes later before finding his second just before half-time. Mehdi Guendouzi added a third in the thirty-eighth minute and Irfan Kahveci made it four at the break. Muriqi struck twice after the interval, bringing his tally to five, while Greenwood wrapped up the scoring in the eightieth minute.
Eyüpspor made three changes at the restart: Nelson Kante, Horatiu Moldovan and Charles-Andre Ro Yao came on together. Fenerbahçe responded with three substitutions of their own, bringing on Boutobba, Akturkoglu and Skriniar. The home side also saw Lukaku and Yasar booked late in the game, both in the eighty-ninth minute.
Fenerbahçe's possession sat at 54 per cent with 458 total passes completed. They registered 13 shots on target against six for Eyüpspor, and their expected goals figure reached 4.9 compared to 0.79 for the visitors. Seven big chances were created by the hosts, while Eyüpspor managed one. The visitors did edge the attack count with 68 to 64, but the quality of their opportunities told a different story.
The result moves Fenerbahçe up the table and extends Eyüpspor's winless run. The hosts had drawn their last two league matches against Gaziantep and Roma before this performance. Eyüpspor's recent form has been difficult, with defeats to Rizespor and Yenicehrumsor in their previous two outings.
By then, the match had already been decided. Fenerbahçe's efficiency in front of goal was the difference, and the statistics backed that up. Eight goals from seven big chances shows a side that knew what they wanted and took it.
