Trevor Lawrence kneels down instead of scoring touchdown
Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence stopped at the one-yard line in a 35:6 win over the Patriots, letting Bhayshul Tuten score instead.
Trevor Lawrence took a knee at the one-yard line in the fourth quarter of Jacksonville's 35:6 win over New England, turning down a touchdown he could have scored standing up.
The Jaguars quarterback had scrambled 15 yards and found himself alone in front of the end zone. Instead of walking in, he went down at the one with eight minutes left on the clock. On the next play, running back Bhayshul Tuten carried it in for the score.
Lawrence offered a lighthearted explanation on CBS after the game.
"I was just trying to help out all the Bhayshul Tuten fantasy football owners," Lawrence said.
He later gave a more practical reason for the decision.
"There probably wasn't a need to do that. I was just trying to run as much time as possible. They took a timeout after that. I wanted to give them as little time as possible to get back in the game. It probably wasn't the best decision, but we scored on the next play anyway," Lawrence said.
