NFL Forces DHS to Pull Video Using Brian Dawkins

The NFL has told the Department of Homeland Security to pull a video that used Hall of Fame safety Brian Dawkins to promote messaging about a reported migrant caravan heading for the U.S. border.

DHS posted the clip on Sunday. It showed Dawkins' pregame walkout, including his chant of "The time has come," cut together with several of his hardest hits from his playing days. The department captioned the post "Our time has come."

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Monday that the league had asked DHS to take the video down.

Dawkins responded on his X profile. "Let's be clear, I didn't give permission for my name, image and likeness to be used by anybody," he wrote.

Dawkins retired in 2011 after 16 seasons at safety, 13 with the Philadelphia Eagles and three with the Denver Broncos. He made nine Pro Bowls and five All-Pro teams, and finished his career with 37 interceptions, 36 forced fumbles and 26 sacks. Wearing No. 20, he became the first defensive back in Eagles history inducted into the Hall of Fame, anchoring a defense that reached five NFC championship games and one Super Bowl, a 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots following the 2004 season.
