About the player
The two goals that stand out on João Vieira's record both came against the same opponent: Vila Nova, the club he now represents. He converted a penalty in the shootout that won Paysandu the 2022 Copa Verde against Vila Nova, then scored again in the second leg of the 2024 Copa Verde final, once more against Vila Nova.
Vieira, a defensive midfielder from Pato Branco in Paraná, came through the youth ranks at Internacional and made his senior debut there in February 2017. His path to first-team football was far from direct. After a season at São José-RS, he signed for Serra Macaense but spent most of the following years away from the club on loan, passing through Internacional de Madrid in Spain, Esportivo, Juventude's under-23 side, Pelotas, Caxias and São Luiz before Paysandu took him on loan in April 2022.
That move proved decisive. Vieira helped Paysandu win the Copa Verde within months of arriving, and in December 2022 the club paid for the bulk of his economic rights to make the transfer permanent.
He left Paysandu as a free agent in January 2025 to join Vila Nova.
