In the 2009 Norwegian Cup final the club beat Molde 5–4 on penalties; two years later it was Brann, put away 2–1.

It was founded on 25 June 1914, and the wait for a first trophy ran until that afternoon in 2009. Fourth place in 2010, and again in 2013, is as high as Aalesund has finished.

Relegation eventually caught up with them, and 2019 was the year they climbed back — winners of the 1. Divisjon, promoted to the Eliteserien.

The orange is not simply orange. The club calls it tango, and the shirt gave the supporters their name for the side: Tangotrøyene, the tango shirts, worn with blue.

Home is the Color Line Stadion, which holds 10,778.
