Sportpark ICT Specialist holds 5,000 and gives ACV a ground built for a club that has spent most of its life near the top of Dutch amateur football rather than passing through it.

The club started life under a different name. Gerben Wielenga set it up in Assen on 8 April 1939 as 'De Zwaluwen', and it kept that name only until the Royal Dutch Football Association pointed out that Leeuwarder Zwaluwen already had a claim to it. The switch to Asser Christelijke Voetbalvereniging, ACV, became official on 16 January 1941.

ACV took the Overall Amateur Championship in 1978 and again in 1986, and paired those with three Saturday Amateur titles and ten Hoofdklasse crowns spread from 1978 to 2017. Between 1971 and 2009 the club barely left the top amateur tier, dropping out only briefly before working its way back. The Derde Divisie title in 2023 pushed ACV up into the Tweede Divisie, though the stay there ended with relegation in the 2025/26 season.

Blue and black have stayed the club's colours throughout, and De Assenaren remains the name locals use for the team.

He came through at the club between 1968 and 1972, finished as the amateur league's top scorer in 1971/72, and left for FC Groningen before a spell at FC Twente, where he captained the side and topped the scoring charts in the 1977/78 European Cup Winners' Cup.
