Antequera

Rafael Baena left Antequera and came back to it: in 2020 he returned to the side he had represented as a Spanish international, this time to a club carrying a different name from the one he first played for.

That name change followed a collapse. Club Balonmano Antequera, founded in 1994, reached Liga ASOBAL in 2006 and stayed there until June 2012, when debts of around €800,000 forced its dissolution after relegation from the top flight. In its best years it took the Copa de Andalucía four times running, from 2007 to 2010, and reached the Copa del Rey quarter-finals in 2008.

What followed was not a continuation on paper but one in practice. A new entity, Club Balonmano Los Dólmenes Antequera, took the town's prehistoric megalithic sites for its name and started again in the lower divisions, keeping the old supporters and the old green-and-white colours that had given the team its nickname, Los Verdes. Promotion to División de Honor Plata came in 2017, and by 2021–22 the rebuilt club was back in Liga ASOBAL.

Home games are played in front of 2,575 spectators at the Pabellón Fernando Argüelles, and the fixture against BM Málaga, the Derbi Provincial, remains the one the town marks on the calendar. Baena's second spell closed a loop that the club itself had to open twice.
