Cacereño

Extremadura had no older football club than the one that took shape in Caceres in the spring of 1919.

What the club actually did with the decades was win the fourth tier more often than anyone in Spain — eleven titles in Tercera División, the first in 1943/44 and the last in 1975/76. The one final that took the club outside that cycle was the Copa Federación in 1953, lost 1-0 to Real Valladolid.

The name changed twice along the way. A basketball section arrived in October 1975 and Club Deportivo Cacereño became Club Polideportivo Cacereño; in January 2003 the members' club was reconstituted as a sporting limited company.

Manolo — Manuel Sánchez Delgado — began here in 1982-83 before leaving to become a Pichichi winner elsewhere, and he remains the leading scorer in the club's own records. Julio Cobos, who played four seasons at Cacereño, took the side up more than once.
