Villanovense

Villanueva de la Serena sits in the Vegas Altas district of Badajoz province. The original Club Deportivo Villanovense, itself descended from a side founded in 1928, folded under financial strain, and in 1992 a new entity rose in its place. It took until 1999 for that entity to settle on the name it carries today, Club de Fútbol Villanovense, after a spell playing as Sport Club Villanueva.

Four Tercera División titles, won in 2005-06, 2010-11, 2013-14 and 2019-20, have kept it among the more consistent forces of the regional game.

Captain José María Tapia has represented the sort of player the club has tended to produce: local rather than imported, built through the Extremaduran leagues rather than a academy pipeline. It is a club that has stayed close to its own soil, and that closeness sharpens whenever Don Benito comes to town. The Derbi de las Vegas Altas, against CD Don Benito, remains the fixture that matters most here.
