Dynamos

Sam Dauya merged two local sides, Salisbury City and Salisbury United, to form Dynamos, and the new team took the Rhodesia National Football League that same year, adding titles in 1965, 1970, 1976 and 1978 while the country was still Rhodesia.

That dominance did not hold. A crisis through the late 1990s and early 2000s emptied the trophy cabinet before chairman Patson Moyo began rebuilding the side from 2007, a project that produced four straight championships from 2011 to 2014 and, decades apart from the first, three more Cup of Zimbabwe wins in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The players who carried those years are still named on their own: Vitalis "Digital" Takawira from the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations squad, George "Mastermind" Shaya, and Tonderayi "Stanza" Ndiraya, who went from midfielder to head coach. Takesure Chinyama now holds that post.

Both Dynamos against Highlanders, the "Battle of Zimbabwe," and the derby against CAPS United keep the rivalry closer to home. Both are played out at Rufaro Stadium in Mbare, a 60,000-capacity ground the club has had to leave only when a stadium crisis pushed continental matches across the border to Orlando Stadium in South Africa — before the blue shirts came back to the suburb that named them.
