Rick Hemmink had already worn the shirts of Jong FC Twente and Achilles '29 by the time he arrived at Sportpark de Koerbelt in 2022. None of that would have happened without what came before it. In 1965 a coach named Leo Halle took the team to the national amateur championship, a run that earned him the name "De Kampioenenmaker van het Oosten" — the championship maker of the East — a title that belongs to Halle rather than to the club, but one Rijssen has never quite let go of.

The team plays in red and white, which gives the supporters their own shorthand for it, De Rood-Witten, a name used as readily by opposing fans from USV Hercules and FC Utrecht as by their own. Nearer to home, the fixture that matters is against HSC'21 of Haaksbergen, close enough geographically that local papers simply call it de derby; SVZW of Wierden supplies the other rivalry. In 2015 the club added a regional cup, beating Sparta Nijkerk 3-0 in the final of the KNVB Beker for District Oost.
