MCH Arena stands next to the trade-fair halls that give it its name, on the western edge of Herning, and for Superliga fixtures it holds 12,055. European nights are different: UEFA and FIFA no longer allow standing areas, so the ground is reconfigured down to just over 10,000 seats whenever Midtjylland play in continental competition.

The club itself grew out of a 1999 merger between Ikast fS and Herning Fremad, and wasted no time finding its level — the newly formed side won the First Division in its debut season and went straight up to the Superliga. Black and red are the colours; Ulvene, the Wolves, is the name that stuck.

The turning point came in July 2014, when Matthew Benham took a controlling stake and brought the data-driven recruitment model he already ran at Brentford to Herning. The first Superliga title followed within a year, in 2014-15, and two more came before Benham sold his stake in 2023. A fourth arrived in 2024.

The academy, running since 2004 and among the oldest of its kind in Scandinavia, has sent Simon Kjær, Joachim Andersen, Rasmus Kristensen, Winston Reid, Erik Sviatchenko and Pione Sisto into the professional game.

The fixture with Viborg FF is known as the Battle of the Heath, ranked as Denmark's second fiercest derby behind the Copenhagen–Brøndby meetings.

Midtjylland reached a Champions League group stage for the first time in 2020-21, drawn alongside Bayern Munich, Atlético Madrid and Red Bull Salzburg. They now hold the Danish Cup as well, their third, won in 2026.
