Kaplakriki sits on the edge of Hafnarfjörður, a lava-field town south of Reykjavík, and holds 6,450 people — though only 3,050 of them get a seat. For a club whose league titles came in clusters, that arrangement has hosted a good deal of the deciding football played in Iceland this century.

The club that plays there did not start as a football club at all. Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar — the Gymnastics Association of Hafnarfjörður — was set up on 14 October 1929, and the name has never been changed to match what the club actually does now. The following year the old name was brought back, and FH has carried it since.

The titles came late and then all at once. Under Hallgrímur HB Finnbogason, FH took the Úrvalsdeild in 2004, 2005 and 2006 — the first three of the eight they hold — and added the cup in 2006. Nothing before that season is in the honours list at all. Tryggvi Guðmundsson was the club's leading scorer through the middle title year.

The second cluster arrived a decade later, with the championships of 2015 and 2016 under Hallgrímur Jónasson. In between sit two Icelandic Cups, in 2007 and 2010, and six Super Cups spread from 2005 to 2013.

Among those who came through the club, Emil Hallfreðsson went furthest — Fulham, then Fiorentina and Udinese — and played for Iceland, as did most of the names FH has produced.

The nearest rivalry now is with Breiðablik, from Kópavogur, a few kilometres up the coast; matches with Stjarnan of Garðabær and KR Reykjavík carry weight too, though none of these fixtures has ever acquired a name of its own.

The white shirts and black shorts have been at Kaplakriki since 1962. Eight league titles have been won in that time — all of them after 2003.
