Folgore

Adolfo Hirsch never played for San Marino's national side before he found Folgore, but by the time he left the Falciano club he had 29 goals in 91 appearances and a place among the Sammarinese internationals who wore the shirt. That mix, a local side pulling in players who went on to represent the country, runs through Folgore's history more than any single match report does. Marco Bernardi, Marco Domeniconi and Jacopo Raschi all came through the same club before pulling on the national jersey.

The club grew out of Falciano itself, a hamlet inside Serravalle, where residents put it together in 1972. Everyone in the Campionato Sammarinese plays at the same national ground, so Folgore's identity was never going to come from the stadium; it came instead from the district and from the derby with Juvenes/Dogana and Cosmos, the other Serravalle clubs, matches still known locally as the Derby di Serravalle.

Domestic titles have come in bursts rather than a steady run: 1996–97, 1997–98, 1999–2000, then a long gap before 2014–15 and 2020–21. The 2014–15 season stands apart from the other four. Folgore paired the league title with the Coppa Titano that year, a double UEFA noted at the time, built on a comeback that turned the cup final in their favour rather than a comfortable lead held to the end.

Red, yellow and black have stayed the club's colours since Falciano's residents first put the team together, and the nickname that followed, I Fulmini, the Lightning Bolts, fits a club whose best seasons have tended to arrive in short, sharp spells rather than long stretches of dominance. Five league titles in just over a decade separates 1996–97 from 2020–21.
