Gandzasar

None of it traces back cleanly to 1963, when the Kapan side first took the field as Lernagorts. The name changed with the decades — Kapan, then Syunik, then Kapan-81, then Lernagorts again — and so did the club's fortunes, until a 2004 merger with Yerevan's Ararat gave it its current identity and its Armenian name, Gandzasar, "mountain of treasure." The Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine's backing kept it standing after that, and by 2006 the club was back in the Premier League.

The bronze medals of 2008, 2011 and 2012/13 built toward the closest run at the title, a runner-up finish in 2016/17. Then came a European night that still gets mentioned in Kapan: in the 2018/19 Europa League qualifying, Gandzasar beat Poland's Lech Poznań 2-1, Lubambo Musonda scoring the winner.

Home matches are played at the Gandzasar Stadium, also known as Kapan City Stadium, which holds 3,500.
