Ararat-Armenia II
Club · Armenia · First League
Avan Academy took a different name in 2018, after Armenian football authorities turned down a licence application from Ararat Moscow and the project regrouped in Yerevan as Ararat-Armenia. The second team carrying that badge, Ararat-Armenia II, exists for one purpose: to feed players through to the first XI. Armenian regulations make sure it stays that way — reserve sides in the country are barred from promotion out of the First League, whatever they achieve there.
The side has played in that second tier since the 2018/19 season. Its home is the Yerevan Football Academy Stadium in Avan, a ground holding around 1,500, though from 2025/26 the Armenian Football Federation ordered fixtures shifted to the Junior Sport stadium elsewhere in the city. Home colours are red and white; the away kit turns black with red-and-white trim.
Results have settled into a pattern rather than a story. Fourth place in 2022/23 remains the best finish the side has managed, fifth came the year before, and 2025/26 brought thirteenth — a table position, not a title push. The fixture that matters most is against Pyunik's reserve side, a rivalry running since 2018. Ararat-Armenia II holds the edge across that series, with 10 wins to Pyunik's 7 and 5 draws between them; Ararat Yerevan II supplies the other local derby, the two clubs sharing a city and a name.
What the second team is actually for shows up in the transfer list more than the table. Davit Petrosyan moved up to the first team in July 2024, Michael Aivazian a year before him, Vahram Makhsudyan among them too; others who came through went elsewhere instead — Davit Sargsyan to Mika, Erik Smbatyan to West Armenia, Patvakan Avetisyan to Syunik, Armen Nahapetyan across town to Ararat Yerevan. No trophy sits in the club's history, and under the rules governing reserve football in Armenia, none is there to be won.
