Hødd

The name came from the archer of Norse myth, Höðr — a word that carries "battle" in it — and the sports club that took it started life in Ulsteinvik on 1 August 1919. The blue and white have stayed since.

Then came 1965, a 2. divisjon title, and a first promotion to the second tier. The player who ran through that era was Kjetil Hasund, a forward of the 1960s who scored 460 goals in 646 matches and was capped 16 times by Norway while at Hødd — no other player has been called up from the club. In a 2012 vote he was named the best in its history.

That same year gave the club the thing it is known for. Hødd went into the Norwegian Football Cup final against Tromsø sitting in the relegation places, having been in the drop zone until the last round of the league season, and drew 1–1 before winning 4–2 on penalties. It remains the biggest upset the competition has produced. The goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland was named man of the match and later moved to Molde; among the substitutes, Fredrik Aursnes became the youngest player ever to win the cup, at 16 years and 351 days. The prize was a place in the 2013/14 Europa League.

Before all that, in 1994, the club had won group 2 of the 1. divisjon with 46 points and gone up to the Tippeligaen.

Home is Nye Høddvoll, opened in 2015 with an artificial pitch and 4,081 seats, on the site the old Høddvoll ground once occupied. The old one held 12,300 for a cup quarter-final against Vålerenga in 1981, a figure the new stadium cannot approach.

Since then the club has lived in the third tier and climbed out of it repeatedly, winning the 2. divisjon in 2022 and again in 2024.
