Åsane

Twice Åsane have come out of the 2. divisjon as champions, in 2001 and in 2014. The first promotion lasted a single season — down again in 2002. The second bought five years in the 1. divisjon before the drop came round once more in 2018. A year later the club found a third route up, this time through the play-offs.

The club took its name from Åsane, the district north of Bergen's centre where it was founded in 1971, and it plays in orange and black at Åsane Arena.

The more recent movement has come from the women's side. They won the 3. divisjon in 2006 and the 2. divisjon in 2011, then climbed to the Toppserien in 2022 — a longer ascent than the men have managed, and one that reached a level the men's team has never played at. In 2023 they finished eighth of the 10 clubs in the top flight and reached the quarter-finals of the cup, the deepest run either side has made in that competition.

What Åsane have not done is settle anywhere. The men's record reads as a series of climbs and falls between the second and third tiers, with no season yet spent in the Eliteserien, and the two divisional titles remain the only ones the men have to point to. The women arrived in the Toppserien recently enough that a single mid-table finish is the whole of the evidence.
