Sfax has one big club everyone abroad has heard of and a second footballing life that belongs to the Kerkennah Islands, the strip of low-lying land off its coast. Océano Club de Kerkennah carries that life on its back: a team registered to an archipelago, so for most of its history it has played its home matches in Sfax itself, at the Stade de la Cité El Habib, while its own island stadium, the Farhat-Hached ground in Remla, has room for only 1,500 people.

The club was founded on 14 October 1963 and needed until 1978 to reach the top flight — a South Pool title in the Second Division after climbing out of the third tier in 1970.

Mohamed Trabelsi came through that 1988 youth side that won the club's Cup title at that level and went on to earn eight caps for Tunisia, playing at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations before his career took him to Club Africain and Stade Tunisien.

Thirteen seasons is the total stretch this island club has managed in Tunisia's top division.
