Weightlifting brought the founders together in Linz in 1899, when a group of local athletes formed Athletiksportklub Siegfried.

The Schwarz-Weißen waited far longer than most Austrian clubs for silverware. The breakthrough came in 1964-65, when LASK won the league and the Austrian Cup in the same season.

Home matches are played at the Raiffeisen Arena, and the club has built out beyond the men's first team: a women's side was formed in 2021 and now competes in the Austrian women's Bundesliga, playing at LASK-Platz an der Daimlerstraße. A squad that has also drawn in internationals such as Estonia's Siret Reemet and Katrin Kirpu.
