Leiden Women

The revival that put ZZ Leiden's women back in the Eredivisie Vrouwen in 2023–24 was not, strictly, a first act. The club traces to Bona Stars, founded by Ton Kallenberg on 23 September 1958, and a women's side carrying the lineage through Parker Leiden and BS Leiden had already won a Dutch Championship in 1978. What returned to the top flight forty-odd years later was closer to a resumption than a debut.

The team plays as Zorg & Zekerheid Leiden Dames, sharing the club's colours of blue, navy, white and green — a green shirt with a navy half-pattern marks the current kit — and its home floor at the Aad van der Luithal hall within Sportcomplex 1574, which holds 2,435. Games against Den Helder Suns are known locally as the Sleutelstad derby, after Leiden's nickname as the Key City.

Worthy de Jong, who built his name with the men's side, turned out briefly for the women's team in January 2023, a rare crossing of the club's two histories.

Since re-establishing itself in the Eredivisie, the women's team has yet to add a trophy of its own; the 1978 championship still belongs to an earlier generation of the club's history, not this one.
