Ngezi Platinum

Ngezi Platinum had joined the Premier Soccer League only in 2016.

That fixture against FC Platinum has since become the club's defining derby, the "Battle of the Platinum," a meeting sharpened by the fact both sides are backed by platinum mining money rather than by geography. A first league championship for a club that started out as a social team called Ngezi Sporto, sponsored by MCC, before senior football took over in 2004.

Takesure Chiragwi, who had once been in temporary charge as caretaker, was the coach who eventually took them to that title, with Takunda Benhura finishing as top scorer and goalkeeper Nelson Chadya named among the season's finalists.

Not every appointment has gone as smoothly. In 2022 the club brought in Benjani Mwaruwari, once a striker for Manchester City, as head coach, only to dismiss him after 13 matches — a decision that ended up before FIFA, which ordered Ngezi Platinum to pay him close to US$600,000 in compensation.

Home games are played in front of a ground that holds just 2,000 people.
