Tomasz Pomiankiewicz finished the 2014/2015 season as top scorer of the second-tier I Liga, with 183 goals. The section began in 1964 under Zdzisław Rycicki, and its junior teams reached provincial level in the late 1970s under Edmund Zaręba, before the whole thing folded in 1981 for want of a hall and money to run it. It stayed shut for over a quarter of a century, until 2008, when club president Robert Minkina and Władysław Solonko brought it back.

The rebuilt side started again from the Second League, joined it in the 2009/2010 season, and needed until 2013/2014 to break through: second place under coach Zbigniew Tłuczyński, then a promotion play-off past Żagiew Dzierżoniów and Zagłębie Sosnowiec that sent the club into the First League for the first time in September 2014, the tier where Pomiankiewicz would finish top scorer the following spring.

Home games are played in black and orange, colours that earned the team its nickname, Wojownicy — the Warriors — in a hall that holds just under 2,500 for handball. The fiercest fixtures come against Kielce, home to Korona and to SMS ZPRP II, and locally those matches go by their own name: the Holy Cross Derby.

KSZO's handball players remain in the First League, still measuring themselves against the game's provincial hierarchy after having had to build it back from nothing once already.
