«Red Dragons»
Cortland goes into this season as reigning national champions at the Division III level, having beaten North Central 38–37 in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in 2023. The program has since lost the coach who took it there: Curt Fitzpatrick left for Colgate University after the 2024 season, and Tom Blumenauer took over the Red Dragons in 2025.
Before Fitzpatrick, the program was Dan MacNeill's for more than two decades. Between 1997 and 2019 he won six New Jersey Athletic Conference titles and two Empire 8 championships. Cortland has been playing football since 1893, and the current run of Empire 8 titles — six of them between 2015 and 2024 — sits alongside an older set of conference championships won in the New Jersey Athletic Conference the previous decade.
Games are played at Lankler Stadium, which holds around 6,500. Jake Ceresna and R-Kal Truluck, while Bob Bateson and Craig Peterson took the CFL route instead.
