Golden Eagles

The ground in Mainz-Mombach has two names, Bezirkssportanlage and Otto-Schott-Sportzentrum, and it holds 2,500 spectators. It sits at Auf der Langen Lein 2A. The Golden Eagles are the American football department of TSV Schott Mainz, a multi-sport club.

They began in 1982, and the first years moved quickly. In 1984 they won the 2. Bundesliga (Mid/South) and were promoted to the top flight. In 1987 they reached the Wild Card round of the German Football League (GFL) play-offs. Later came spells in the GFL and the second tier, GFL2. In 2026 the men play in the Regionalliga Mitte. Along the way they won the Oberliga twice, in 1997 and 2007.

Derby weeks are shared with two neighbours. Montabaur's Fighting Farmers are the other side of the Rhineland-Palatinate derby. Wiesbaden's Phantoms, across the river in Hesse's state capital, make up the Hauptstadt-Derby.

The women's team arrived in 2006 under the name Mainz Lady Warriors. It took them three years to win the 2. Damenbundesliga in 2009, and they won it again in 2011 and 2015. They finished as German vice-champions in 2016 and again in 2017.
