Selangor

Long before there was a single club to speak of, Petaling Jaya's footballers organised themselves into a competition, the Selangor Association Football League, formed in 1906. It took three decades for that grassroots body to fuse with the Selangor Football Association and become the Football Association of Selangor in 1936, and it was not until 2020 that the playing side split off into its own commercial entity, Selangor Football Club, run by Red Giants FC Sdn. Bhd., with the association keeping charge of developing players from the ground up.

No side in the country has collected more silverware. The Malaysia Cup alone has gone to Selangor 33 times, a run that stretches from 1922 to 2015. Two Malaysia Super League titles, in 2009 and 2010, and five FA Cup wins between 2000 and 2009 sit alongside it.

The number that still gets repeated around Petaling Jaya belongs to Mokhtar Dahari; supporters still call him "Super Mokh". The team once filled Shah Alam Stadium, before redevelopment pushed them back to the much smaller Petaling Jaya Stadium. Meetings with Kuala Lumpur City FC carry their own name, the Derby Lembah Klang, fought out in red and yellow, the colours taken from the state flag of Selangor itself.

What the club has not managed is a return to the Malaysia Cup podium since 2015.
