Terengganu

The ground holds 50,000, and it stands in Kuala Nerus rather than the state capital itself.

The team traces itself to the Terengganu Football Association, set up on 22 November 1956, though the name on the shirt now is newer than that: in November 2017 the association restructured, rebranded its senior side as Terengganu FC, and folded in T-Team FC as a reserve team renamed Terengganu FC II. Supporters still call the first team Sang Penyu — the Turtles, after the animal tied to the state — or simply Hitam Putih for the black-and-white stripes they wear.

Terengganu have never taken the top-flight Super League title, finishing runners-up in 2011 and 2013 and no closer since. The count that matters more locally sits in the Malaysia Cup, won once, in 2001. Matches against Kelantan FC carry their own name, the East Coast Derby.

Terengganu FC II, born out of the 2017 merger, once reached the Super League itself in 2010 before being pushed back down to the third tier after the reorganisation. The senior side's own history in the second flight reads twice over: champions of the Malaysia Premier League in 1990 and again in 1997.
