Sepsi OSK Sfântu Gheorghe

Sfântu Gheorghe is the seat of Covasna county, in the Székely Land. Organised football of any serious kind barely existed there until two businessmen, László Diószegi and Dávid Kertész, put together a club in the summer of 2011. They called it OSK, borrowing the initials and the red-and-white colours of Olt Sport Klub, a side that no longer existed.

What followed was a climb through the Romanian pyramid almost without pause: the county's fifth division in the debut season, the fourth two years later under Valentin Suciu, third by 2016. By 2017 Sepsi had turned fully professional and become the first club from Covasna to reach Liga I — before it had a stadium fit to play in. The opening months of that first top-flight season were spent hosting matches in Brașov and Ploiești; the team did not play a home league game in Sfântu Gheorghe itself until 19 March 2018. A proper answer to that problem came only in 2021, with the opening of Sepsi Arena, an 8,400-seat ground the club now calls home.

The cups followed the stadium. Sepsi won the Cupa României in 2022 and again in 2023, the second final settled on penalties against Universitatea Cluj, and took the Supercupa României both years as well. In the league its best campaign came in 2020/21, a fourth-place finish that opened the door to European qualification — a first for the county. CFR Cluj and Universitatea Cluj remain the sides Sepsi measures itself against most often.

The road since has not been straight. Relegation from Liga I was followed by a second-place finish in Liga II in 2025/26, enough to send the club straight back up — starting the new Liga I season needing to prove the top flight is still where it belongs.
