SG Waiblingen Women

The women's team now competing as SG Waiblingen Frauen answers to the wider Waiblingen Tigers brand, but the department itself has only carried its own legal identity since 15 March 2014, when it split off from the old multi-sport society over liability concerns and became VfL Waiblingen Handball e.V.

The team's best days on paper came earlier and later than that split. Waiblingen reached the top flight in 1978 and held its place there until 1984, a stretch that included a run to the German Championship semi-finals in 1980. It took until 2022 for the women to get back to the 1. Bundesliga , winning the 2. Bundesliga South that season, though the stay lasted only a year before relegation sent them back down in 2023.

What edge the fixture list still carries comes from TG Nürtingen, a meeting known locally as the Derby der 2. Handball-Bundesliga der Frauen.

The name still spoken with most weight around the club belongs to Nadine Krause, who came through the Waiblingen youth side and won the German A-Jugend title with them in 1998 before her career carried her to the World Handball Player of the Year award in 2006 — proof of what the academy could produce.
