TEC

Simon Tahamata grew up in Tiel and took his first steps in the game at TSV Theole, a club that would later be folded into SV TEC. He went on to play for Ajax, Feyenoord and Standard Liège and won caps for the Netherlands, and in 1984 TEC brought him home for an anniversary match against Feyenoord, putting him on the same pitch as the club he had left behind.

The club itself was stitched together in 1924, when four Tiel sides — Amical, Hercules, Inter Amicos and Houdt Stand — merged into Sportvereniging Tielse Eendracht Combinatie. Orange and white from the start, the shirts gave the club its nickname, De Oranjehemden.

For most of its existence TEC stayed in the lower amateur tiers, and then, from 2010, it did not. Under manager Hanky Leatemia, himself a former TEC player, the club won three straight Derde Klasse titles on the Saturday and kept climbing, through the Hoofdklasse and into the Topklasse for 2010/11. A development plan set in motion that year, carried forward under Frits van den Berk, eventually delivered the club's highest finish: promotion to the Tweede Divisie in 2018/19, the third tier of Dutch football, after TEC finished runner-up in the Derde Divisie. The Tweede Divisie stay lasted four seasons; a 15th-place finish in 2022/23 sent TEC into the relegation play-offs against SteDoCo, which TEC lost, and the club dropped back down.

Local business is settled against RKTVC, the Roman Catholic club across town, in what Tiel calls the Stadsderby. TEC plays its games at Sportpark De Lok, and the run that took it there from the Derde Klasse to the third tier of Dutch football spanned nine years.
