Tre Penne

In between, the club added a Coppa Titano in 2016–17 to a trophy it had already lifted in 1966–67, 1969–70, 1981–82 and 1982–83, long before the league breakthrough came. In 2013 that domestic strength finally travelled: a 1–0 win over Shirak in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League made Tre Penne the first San Marinese club to win a European match, a result no other side from the republic had managed before.

The club plays in blue and white at home and switches to red away, colours carried over from an earlier team, La Serenissima, when Tre Penne formed in 1956. Marco Macina remains the name attached to the club's rare reach beyond San Marino's borders: he went on to play for Bologna and AC Milan, one of only two Sammarinese footballers to appear in Serie A. Federico Valentini's long service in goal for the national team is the other thread that runs from Tre Penne's dressing room into the country's football story.
