Velež Nevesinje

Sherwin Seedorf arrived in Nevesinje for the 2024–25 season, a Dutch winger a long way from home on a pitch that seats two thousand people, alongside Elzio Lohan, a Brazilian midfielder sent on loan from Velež Mostar.

Founded in 1932, the club has spent most of its life below the level where such departures become routine rather than exceptional. Its championships came in the regional leagues of the Republika Srpska: top of the southern group in 2012–13 and again in 2015–16, and, earlier, the 1995–96 title in the Second League that carried it up to the First League of the Republika Srpska for the following season. There has been no cup run to set against those, and no confusion is possible with the Velež from Mostar, whose history runs on an entirely different scale.

The rivalry that matters locally is with Leotar Trebinje, sharpened by geography rather than by any single trophy, with Iskra Stolac an older name from the same corner of Herzegovina. All of it plays out at the Gradski Stadion in Nevesinje, a ground built for a crowd that fits inside two thousand seats and rarely needs more.
