Real gymnasium students in Žižkov formed the club in 1903, well before their neighbourhood was folded into Prague in 1922. The name itself has taken a winding route: Sokol Viktoria Žižkov in 1950, Sokol ČSAD Žižkov the year after, then a merger with Avia Čakovice made it TJ Slavoj Žižkov in 1952. The old Viktoria name returned in 1965, and the current FK Viktoria Žižkov has stood since 1992.

The club's one Czechoslovak title came in 1927–28, but the cup form of that era was harder to match — seven wins between 1913 and 1940. Independent Czech football brought two further cups, in 1993–94 and 2000–01, plus promotions as champions of the second tier in 2006–07 and the third tier in 2022–23.

Before he became one of Czechoslovakia's most famous comic actors, Vlasta Burian kept goal for Viktorka around 1916 — a plaque at the stadium still marks it. Decades later, Karel Poborský came through the same club, scoring 10 goals in a single season before Sparta signed him and he went on to Euro 96 with the national side. Petr Švancara arrived the other way round, joining in 2007 already established as the Czech league's top scorer, and struck a goal against Bohemians in 2008 that was voted the best in the country that year.

Sparta remain the fixture Viktorka calls a derby outright, first team and reserves alike, while matches against Sparta, Dukla and Bohemians 1905 fall under the wider label of the Little Prague derby. Games are played at the FK Viktoria Stadion on Seifertova street, a ground holding just over 5,000 in red and white, the colours taken from the Bohemian flag.
