SKB Zlín go into the 2026/27 season in the 1. Liga, the second tier of Czech basketball, off the back of a title. The men's side won the league in 2025/26, matching a result last achieved in 2016/17, and build the new campaign around Jakub Krakovič, Filip Šmíd, Jan Hlobil and Jonáš Musil, with Jaroslav Kotala combining the roles of head coach and club president.

The club's name has shifted with both politics and sponsorship. Founded as SK Baťa Zlín in 1941, it became TJ Spartak Gottwaldov in 1953, then TJ Gottwaldov in 1958, before returning to SKB Zlín in 1990. Since then sponsors have done the renaming: Proton from 2003, back to SKB Zlín in 2013, and SKB Fastav Zlín since 2022.

The women's section produced the club's high point on the national stage: two seasons in the Czechoslovak top flight, 1968/69 and 1969/70, built around Eva Polozová, Marie Jajtnerová and Jana Keřtová under coach Miroslav Štarha, before relegation ended the run. The Czech Cup has been kinder to others — Zlín's best showing there is a last-32 exit, in 2019/20.

Basket Olomouc and BK Opava supply the sharpest rivalries in the current league, and both matter more than usual for a club that has twice had to fight off the drop this decade, finishing 17th in 2021/22 and 16th in 2023/24. Basketball shares the city with the more popular FC Fastav Zlín and with ice hockey. The men's team's hall, Městská sportovní hala Zelené, opened in 2001 and seats 300.
