Kalisz has run a men's handball club since 2007, but until 2022 the town had nowhere for its own girls to grow into the game beyond youth level. The Polish Handball Association filled that gap on 11 May 2022, announcing a Sports Master School in Kalisz alongside sister centres in Płock and Lublin, built to carry promising young players through to senior handball rather than send them elsewhere to find it. Classes and training began that September under the name SMS ZPRP Kalisz.

It is not a club in the ordinary sense, but a state-backed school. Marta Noculak was named MVP of the SMS Cup in March 2023. Nikola Szulda captains the side.

Home games are played at Hala Arena Kalisz, a ground the school shares with the city's men's team.
